Microteaching Through Poetry

Microteaching, a technique to teach,
So our teaching potential we could all reach.
From a teacher to a third grader,
So teaching we could master.

We sat there and got into character
And filled the session with laughter.
As we went through the writing process,
And our peers tried doing their best.

First was brainstorming then drafting,
2 sessions filled with modelling.
We also saw powerful questioning,
Looks like they've mastered that thing

Constructive criticism was shared after,
So their teaching of writing could be done better.
We all learned something from the feedback given,
As our teaching skills we hope to sharpen.

With the fun there was much to learn,
As some old habits, we swore to burn,
From Micorteaching, a technique to teach,
So our teaching potential we could all reach.

Hope you enjoy !!!!

  1. I really enjoyed this piece. It was very well written and captures the essence of the mini lessons that we engaged in for micro teaching. The opportunity to deliver a mini writing lesson was much appreciated as it assisted with building confidence and also recognizing what we as teachers of writing should engage our students in when delivering a writing lesson. Great job!! Nice work

  2. What a beautiful way to sum up your learning experience! This piece beautifully encapsulates our journeys through the mini lessons. I share Dieanie's sentiments that these lessons helped boost our confidence as green teachers and gave us a true sense of how we should set out to teach writing.

  3. Wow! All I can really say is "Wow". Who would have thought that this team would of brought out the essence of the microteaching sessions in a poem. This post was amazing, you captured all the important elements of our microteaching sessions. To comment a little more on our microteaching sessions, I believe that we all put on a good show. After the mini lessons we understood the writing process much better. One thing which stood out for me and I would like to share is that in conducting our microteaching lesson, we had to produce or present a lesson plan. Not once did it cross my mind that the approach to teaching writing is the writing process and this is what we have been doing the whole time. So this post right here brought back many memories.

    Creativity at its best!

  4. Using a different genre of writing to bring your message across: this is exactly what we want to instil in our young writers. This is a great way of showing the flexibility and latitude that writing presents. I see this is a commendable post.
While I am quite intrigued by the deliver of this information, I was more impressed by the microteaching lessons. This was very inspiring and porductive, as it allowed us to bridge the gap between theory and practice. We all surely learned a thing or two, maybe three, from each lesson. Moving forward, I can say that this made me more prepared for teaching, and aware of the common errors to avoid.

  6. Reading this post in a few minutes reloaded my memory on the edifying micoteaching sessions which occurred. I can unequivocally say that these sessions built my confidence to teach the writing process. Observing the different stages being modelled so effortlessly, and providing activities to store in my reservoir of writing activities have mentally prepared me for teaching writing. The missing link to connect the theoretical aspect of writing to the practical aspect got connected. Although the micro teaching was nerve wrecking for some of us, I must commend the lecturer for having us engage in those mini lessons. This is a strategy which works and must be continued to bridge the gap between theory and practical in all courses.

This piece tied in everything from activities to emotions to breaking old habits. The micro teaching experience was very necessary and surely, I learned of new strategies and activities that I can utilize in the teaching of Expressive Writing. The use of mini lessons was a perfect way to help break and make us one step closer to becoming the good literacy educator.

  8. A great way to bring out poem to bring out poetry. Poetry brings out the creativity of an individual and makes the learning process a fun and meaningful one. The micro teaching sessions were a good way of providing students with a bit of experience in the way we should engage students in the writing process. The constructive criticism provided will surely assist as we the student teachers go into the classroom. A good way of presenting the events of the class through poetry. The creative juices are flowing, I must say.

  11. Wonderful description of our micro teaching sessions through poetry. The sessions were neccessary for us to know our areas and levels of weaknesses and strengths. It also gave us an opportunity to experience the teaching of writing. The lecturer gave us an idea of what is expected of us when we go into the classrooms by highlighting our flaws and complimentingus on our areas of strengths.
